Utengule is a 20 km distance from Mbeya town. It can be reached by driving 12 km on the highway towards Zambia and then turning right at Mbalizi town. From that point, it is another 8 km on the all-season road to reach Utengule Estate and Lodge. All turning points are indicated with signboards.
A fast and cheap way to get to Utengule is by plane. There are several flights a day from and to Dar es Salaam, while Mbeya airport is just 15 minutes away from Utengule Coffee Lodge. On request we are happy to arrange airport transfers or if you prefer you can also take a Taxi.
BY ROAD – From Dar es Salaam, Zambia or Malawi borders
From Dar it takes about 10 to 12 hours over mainly good tarmac road, passing Chalinzee, Morogoro, Mikumi National Park (Camps available) and Iringa (recommended Lodge is Kisolanza Farm, 60 km after Iringa towards Mbeya).
Utengule can also be reached with TAZARA, which leaves from Dar es Salaam City passing through Selous park and reaching Mbeya the next day. It is strongly recommended always to book an entire 1st class compartment well in advance. All trains have a restaurant wagon which serves meals but own food and beverage are recommended.
